Windows Vista vs. XP

I need to replace my Dell Dimension 8100 desktop soon and am looking at several options. Most of them center around whether to jump on the apparently painful bandwagon and get at state-of-the-art Windows Vista machine or find a lower-priced Windows XP machine to hold me over until Microsoft comes out with a smoother version of Vista or its next "new and improved" O/S.

Any recommendations?

buy a vista machine, but format it and load xp pro on it. you will have vista later on when they get it fixed. it sux now.

you can download all the xp versions you want at warez-bb dot org

no adware, spyware there, just a huge forum like this where you can get all the shit you need for a pc

that is pretty good advice. I heard that Vista will have its first service pack by the end of the year, but that is fast approaching.

the new vista service pack is going to do very little to fix the issues at hand.

the most exciting news of the new year is windows XP SP3. Included with many big time fixes is going to be a 10% increase in speed of your systems running XP. Initial impressions have been excellent so far. Avoid Vista entirely for now and focus on the stable OS, XP.

vista is currently the lowest rated operating system by many of the reviewing services which include user reviews. simply put, microsoft released a product that was not scaled out enough to adapt to current programs nor open enough to developers to customize software to meet vista demands.

I'm piecing together a home recording studio and 95% of the midi and audio sequencer's and plug-ins will not work with Vista, nor are they scrambling to get their products to work on Vista.
